What ACP enables
ACP connects buyers, AI assistants and merchants throughout a purchase. It describes how agents read product offers, create and update a checkout, and complete an order. Customers can shop through an assistant while the merchant connects its existing order and payment systems.
Connections with other protocols
- ACP and UCP both describe purchases through agents. ACP defines its own checkout interfaces, extensions and capability negotiation.
- MCP can expose ACP functions as tools for an assistant. ACP describes the purchase data and the steps involved.
- This profile covers the Agentic Commerce Protocol from OpenAI and Stripe. Other projects also use the abbreviation ACP, including the Agent Client Protocol.
